COBLESKILL — The North Eastern Athletic Conference announced Monday that SUNY Cobleskill junior Gregoire Diedhiou has been voted the men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Year by the league’s coaches.

He becomes the first Fighting Tiger men’s soccer player to earn a NEAC postseason major award in program history.

During the year, Diedhiou was the anchor for the Fighting Tigers’ defense. He was tasked with defending the opposition’s top scoring threat in each game this season and consistently organized a defense that played in front of three different goalkeepers throughout the season. His efforts helped Cobleskill post five shutouts while limiting its opponents to 1.90 goals per game overall and 1.33 goals per game in NEAC play.

In addition to his defensive work, Diedhiou scored one goal in a conference game and was used on set pieces throughout the year.
