
SCHENECTADY — A 33-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on a felony weapons charge, according to Schenectady police.
Jamelle Ward, of Schenectady, was spotted by police detectives with a handgun in his waistband when they were in the 8th Avenue area on Wednesday, according to police. When officers approached Ward, he ran, leading police on a foot chase, according to the police department.
Police caught Ward and found a loaded .45 caliber handgun near where he was apprehended, police said. Sgt. Jeffrey McCutcheon said detectives ran the serial number on the handgun and determined it was stolen.
Ward was charged with two felonies,second-degree possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
Police said Ward was being held in the police department’s lock-up on Wednesday while waiting to be arraigned.
