HAMDEN, Conn. — After suffering a tough 4-3 overtime loss to Princeton on Friday, Union needed something positive heading into its first trimester exam break.
Thanks to forwards Josh Kosack and Anthony Rinaldi and goalie Darion Hanson, the Dutchmen will be smiling while taking their exams.
Kosack and Rinaldi each had two goals, and Hanson stopped 34 shots as the 12th-ranked Dutchmen knocked off 13th-ranked Quinnipiac 5-1 on Saturday.
Ryan Walker got the Dutchmen (3-3 ECACH, 7-3-1 overall) going when he scored a little over three minutes into the game. Kosack got his first goal with 7:01 left in the second period.
Rinaldi scored consecutive goals 3:10 apart in the third period. Kosack completed the scoring with his second tally of the game with 3:07 remaining.
Meanwhile, Hanson was spectacular. His best period was the second, when he stopped 16 of 17 shots. The only goal by Quinnipiac (2-2, 7-2) was scored by Michael Lombardi on a wraparound with 3:38 left in the second.
Defenseman Vas Kolais had two assists for Union, which will return to action Nov. 23 when it faces ECACH-foe Yale in the Friendship Four tournament in Belfast, Northern Ireland. That will be a non-conference contest.
