Saratoga Sheriff: Man killed pet rabbit in presence of child in Halfmoon

HALFMOON – An Albany man killed a pet rabbit in Halfmoon while in the presence of a child, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said.

Stephen M. Drake, II, 21, of 22 Grandview Terrace, was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, along with misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child.

Drake is accused of causing the death of his girlfriend’s rabbit and damaging the cage it was kept in, all as the child was “present and in close proximity,” officials said.

Drake was arraigned by and ordered held on $3,000 bail. He is to return to court today.
