SCHOHARIE — A Schoharie man has been charged with engaging in sexual contact with a child younger than 13, state police said.
Shane P. Borst, 51, was charged Friday with one count each of first-degree criminal sexual act and first-degree sexual abuse, both felonies, along with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.
If convicted of the top count against him, Borst faces up to 25 years in state prison.
The investigation began Nov. 9 after state police received information about the possible sexual abuse of a child in Cobleskill. Troopers determined Borst to be the person responsible and that he abused the child over a one-year period, troopers said.
Borst was arraigned and ordered held at the Schoharie County Jail.
