GLOVERSVILLE — An Amsterdam man who worked as a licensed practical nurse for the Gloversville Enlarged School District has been charged with sexually abusing a child on school property, Gloversville police said.
Teddy A. Germain, 46, of Guy Park Avenue, was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Friday and charged with first-degree sexual abuse, police said. He was being held in jail pending an arraignment in Gloversville City Court.
Police detectives said an investigation found that while Germain was working in his capacity as an LPN for the school district, “he went beyond the scope of his license and subjected a child less than 11 years of age to sexual contact.” Germain turned himself in Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The alleged incident occurred at the Kingsborough Elementary School on Dec. 13, police said.
Police said their investigation is ongoing and any parent who believes that their child was subjected to unnecessary physical contact is encouraged to contact the Gloversville Police Department detective division.
Germain has worked for the Gloversville district since December 2016.
In a statement released Friday night, the school district said it had alerted police immediately after learning of the allegation, and also immediately placed Germain on administrative leave. It said he is no longer employed by the district.
“The district is extremely disturbed about the nature of these allegations,” Superintendent David Halloran said. “We will continue to assist police in any way we can. Anyone with concerns should contact Gloversville police.”
Because of the police investigation, district officials said the district cannot comment further.
