CLIFTON PARK — A man accused of setting fire to a car Monday in Clifton Park admitted to deputies after his arrest that he “acted irrationally,” according to court documents.

Nicholas A. Cole, 20, of 540B Englemore Road, was charged Monday with one count each of third-degree arson and second-degree criminal mischief, both felonies.

The vehicle’s owner called police after Cole set the car on fire on Vischer Ferry Road before fleeing on foot, according to deputies. Cole was apprehended a short distance from the fire scene, deputies said.

The victim’s 2002 Buick was destroyed.

After deputies found him, Cole allegedly claimed the victim had taken money from him, according to court documents.

“I was just really pissed, if you couldn’t tell, haha,” Cole allegedly told a deputy, according to the filing.

Cole also allegedly asked the deputy: “Is this a felony?”

Cole was arraigned and sent to county jail, pending a court appearance. An order of protection was also issued for the car’s owner.
