Police: Man attempted to set fire in Schenectady

He allegedly did so while grabbing his girlfriend by the arm, authorities say

SCHENECTADY – A city man violated an order of protection and tried to light a residence on fire, authorities said.

Hasan L. Strange, 42, of Richard Street, was arrested Tuesday on one count each of third-degree attempted arson and first-degree criminal contempt, felonies.

Strange is accused of grabbing his girlfriend by the arm and then using a lighter to try and set a curtain on fire at his Richard Street residence just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to police allegations filed in court. The woman already had an order of protection against Strange, authorities said.

The incident resulted in minor damage to the curtain and building, authorities said.

Strange was arrested a short time later on Michigan Avenue, authorities said.

Strange was arraigned and ordered held.
