GLENVILLE — The Pizza Works restaurant on Route 50 in Burnt Hills would move to a new building, and Glenville would gain a Five Guys hamburger shop, under proposals going before the town Planning and Zoning Commission next week.
The Pizza Works proposal is up for a conceptual review at the meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. Monday in Town Hall.
That proposal calls for construction of a 7,207-square-foot building on property immediately south of the current Pizza Works, on the east side of Route 50 just south of the Saratoga County line. A new Pizza Works would occupy nearly 4,900 square feet of the new building, with the remainder to be marketed for retail or office space.
Pizza Works, which was started with a shop in Ballston Spa in 1988, has operated a restaurant in Burnt Hills since 1991 and has been in its current location, formerly a Dairy Queen, since 2005. The new location would be larger, based on information supplied to the town.
Pizza Works owner Ed Rovetto presented a different conceptual plan about 18 months ago, said town Planning Director Kevin Corcoran. Because the new review will also be conceptual, it wasn’t clear what approvals would be needed from the town.
Meanwhile, a different project coming before the commission would result in a Five Guys being opened in the Hannaford Plaza in the town center, to occupy part of a space formerly occupied by Aubuchon Hardware, which closed more than two years ago. Monday’s meeting will include a preliminary site plan review for that proposal.
Five Guys would occupy 2,500 square feet of space; the chain is also seeking to create an outdoor patio. Great Clips, a hair salon, would occupy 1,136 square feet of the space, which will still leave landlord Benderson Development Co. seeking to fill 1,975 square feet in the former hardware store.
Five Guys has almost 1,500 locations in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe and the Middle East, according to the company’s website. The closest locations to Glenville are in Niskayuna and Clifton Park.
Because it is a restaurant, Five Guys would require a conditional use permit from the Zoning Board of Appeals, but the Planning and Zoning Commission would make a recommendation on the application, Corcoran said.
