Sheriff: Woman, 77, dies in Town of Amsterdam fire

The fire happened at a trailer park off Route 67

TOWN OF AMSTERDAM – A 77-year-old woman died in a fire Monday evening in the Town of Amsterdam, Montgomery County Sheriff’s officials said.

The victim was identified as Ramona L. Hall, of Pine Meadow Trailer Park, 708 Route 67, Lot. 2.

Hagaman firefighters were called to the trailer park at about 6:15 p.m. for a report of a fire with someone possibly trapped. Hagaman immediately called for assistance from surrounding departments, Montgomery County Sheriff Jeffrey Smith said in a release.

Firefighters got the fire under control and then discovered Hall inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is to be performed to determine her exact cause of death.

Assisting on scene were fire departments from Cranesville, Fort Johnson, Perth, Galway and West Charlton. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Emergency Services Office and the Montgomery County Fire Coordinator, along with the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded.

The state Office of Fire Prevention and Control assisted by the Montgomery County Fire Investigation Team and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
