ALBANY — The company formerly known as Dunkin’ Donuts cut the ribbon on the first next-generation store in the Capital Region Wednesday.

The shop at 500 Northern Blvd. also is one of the first to bear signage with the new, shorter name: Dunkin’. It features a modern atmosphere and innovative features such as a drive-through strictly for mobile ordering. It includes green features designed to reduce energy usage by 25 percent.

Dunkin’ franchisee Kevin Wright said in a news release: “The new menu offerings and approachable atmosphere will grab the attention of Dunkin’ fans and help keep the Capital Region running on Dunkin’ for years to come.”

The company said it is testing multiple variations of the new shop  design — another will open Thursday in Pittsfield — and it will unveil a final next-generation design when testing is complete.
