ALBANY – A man in custody on a domestic-related assault case manipulated a leg shackle and escaped custody Wednesday morning, police said.

He fled the area, but police later took him back into custody on Central Avenue, police said.

Police identified the man as Joseph Fallen, 60, of Albany, and released his photo.

The escape happened at the department’s South Station, police said.

Fallen worked a shackle off by focusing on the locking mechanism and then fled, police said.

Police reported mid-afternoon that they’d taken him into custody at about 1 p.m.
