By the numbers: Shenendehowa’s Huerter halfway through rookie NBA season

With Wednesday’s 116-100 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, Shenendehowa High School graduate Kevin Huerter reached the midway point of his first NBA season with the Atlanta Hawks.

In the Hawks’ first 41 games, Huerter appeared in 39 and made 23 starts. The No. 19 overall pick in June’s draft, Huerter has per-game averages of 8.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists through the rebuilding Hawks’ 12-29 start to the season.

Here are 10 numbers to know from the first half of Huerter’s rookie season.


Huerter’s 3-point shooting percentage, which ranks No. 3 through Wednesday’s games for rookies this season with at least 100 attempts. Huerter has made 58 3s this season, ranking fourth among NBA rookies.


Players currently competing in their age-20 or younger season, per Huerter is among that group of the NBA’s youngest players. 


Season-high points total scored in a Dec. 31 game against the Indiana Pacers. In that game, Huerter also had two assists in 40 minutes of action.


Age difference in years between 20-year-old Huerter and 41-year-old Vince Carter, the Hawks’ oldest player. Carter, a 10-time all-star, made his NBA debut a little less than six months after Huerter was born.


Consecutive games in which Huerter has played at least 25 minutes. Huerter is averaging 26.0 minutes per game, which ranks him fifth on the Hawks.


Games in which Huerter made multiple 3s. He has made three or more 3s on seven occasions this season.


Double-digit scoring efforts. Huerter’s first game with 10 or more points came Oct. 30 at Cleveland when he scored 13 points against the Cavaliers.


Season-high total rebounds in a game for Huerter. The former University of Maryland star collected 10 rebounds twice during the season’s first half, and did so first against Cleveland on Oct. 21.


Made 3s for Huerter against Indiana on Dec. 31. That season-high total of made 3s came on nine attempts.


Games in which Huerter finished as the lone high scorer for the Hawks. Huerter scored a team-high 19 points in the Hawks’ 129-108 loss to the Boston Celtics on Dec. 14. In that game, Huerter also matched a career-high with three steals.
