MAYFIELD – Officials with the Fulton County Office of Civil Defense and Fire Control have confirmed that two people were injured during a Sunday morning mobile home fire.

According to a statement issued Sunday evening by Fulton County Fire Coordinator Steven Santa Maria, the structure fire at 434 Nine Mile Tree Road was first reported to Fulton County 911 at 9:19 a.m. Sunday morning.

The Mayfield Fire Department responded to the scene along with a Fulton County Sheriff’s deputy and a pair of state troopers. Chief Chris Mraz of the Mayfield Fire Department reported that the structure was “fully involved” upon arrival. While the blaze was said to be brought under control quickly, the mobile home sustained “heavy damage and is considered a total loss.”

While one occupant was able to exit the building on her own, law enforcement officials located and removed the second occupant from the burning structure. A previous report indicated that the mobile home’s occupants were 79- and 57-years old; it is not clear which occupant is which.

The victim pulled from the burning home was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for the treatment of burns and smoke inhalation. The occupant who made it out safely was initially transported to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation, and later transported to Upstate Medical Center. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

The cause of the fire remains unknown as of Sunday evening. Both the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and the Fulton County Fire Investigation team are conducting the investigation into its cause.
