NISKAYUNA – A Niskayuna man was arrested for allegedly raping a child and causing her to give birth, authorities said.
Robert Cronin, 33, was arrested Monday and charged with one count of predatory sexual conduct with a child under the age of 13, a felony.
He is accused of raping the child in early 2018 and impregnating her, according to police allegations filed in court.
If convicted of the charge, Cronin would face up to 25 years to life in state prison.
Police got involved in the case through a child abuse hotline call from a mandated reporter, police said.
The investigation had been ongoing for two months at the time of Cronin’s arrest, police said.
Cronin was arraigned and ordered held. He has pleaded not guilty.
The Niskayuna Police Department investigated. The Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting.
