
K of C slates annual free throw contest
NISKAYUNA — Niskayuna Knights of Columbus Council 8121 is sponsoring the 2019 Free Throw Competition, with the local preliminary competition at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons Gymnasium, 2600 Albany St., Schenectady.
All boys and girls ages 9-14 are invited to participate.
The winners in the 9-14-year-old age range will advance to the regional competition.
All competitors must be accompanied by parent or guardian and bring proof of age.
Entry forms will be available at competition.

Kelly Adirondack Center to host documentary
NISKAYUNA — The Kelly Adirondack Center will host the documentary “Colvin: Hero to the North Woods” with filmmaker Bill Killon at 7 p.m. Jan. 24, 2019.
This event is free and open to the public.
This documentary film tells the story of Verplanck Colvin, the father of the Adirondack Park.
Colvin explored, surveyed, and mapped the northern reaches of upstate New York from 1872 to 1900.
To protect the forest and watersheds, at a time when the idea of conservation was only in its infancy, he proposed a state park for the Adirondack region of New York State.
Library sets weekend used-book sale
CLIFTON PARK — The Friends of the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library will hold a used-book sale in the second floor of the library from 1-5 p.m. Jan. 25, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Jan. 26 and 12-3 p.m. Jan. 27.
There will be a preview sale for members of the Friends of the Library from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Jan. 25.
Hardcover books cost $1. Children’s books, trade books and all paperbacks cost 50 cents. Single CDs and DVDs cost $1. CD sets, DVD sets and audio books will cost $2. Some special books will be priced slightly higher. Sunday is Bag Day, and a Hannaford bag filled with books is $1.
Customers can also buy a Friends tote bag or children’s backpack for $10 and fill it with books for free.
Legion dinner to benefit veterans
NISKAYUNA — American Legion Riders of Schenectady will offer a macaroni and cheese with ham dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at Niskayuna Post 1092, 1809 Union St.
The cost is $12 per person. Eat in or take out. The public is welcome.
All proceeds will benefit veterans.
