
Niskayuna girls tops at Dartmouth Relays
NISKAYUNA — At the Jan. 11-12 Dartmouth Relays in New Hampshire, the Niskayuna girls’ indoor track and field team won the team title.
Niskayuna secured 72 points to claim the team title at an event in which 60 teams had at least one athlete score points.
First-place finishers for the Niskayuna girls included the distance medley relay team of Maddy Hesler, Alexa Smith, Skyler Smith and Liyat Kebbede that finished in 12:27.28; the 4×800-meter relay team of Skyler Smith, Maddie Beltramo, Hesler and Charlotte Kokernak that finished in 9:44.05; and Skyler Smith in the 600-meter run with a 1:39.07 mark.
Second-place finishes belonged to Kristina Koes in the long jump with a distance of 17-6.75 and the 4×400-meter relay of Zoe Harris, Wise, Alexa Smith and Koes with a 4:09.47.
Third-place finishes went to Kebbede in the two-mile run at 11:14.09 and the sprint medley relay of Harris, Marissa Wise, Koes and Kokernak with a 4:16.43.
Setting or matching program freshman records at the event were Skyler Smith in the 600-meter run, Kebbede in the two-mile run and Karleigh West in the 55-meter dash with a fifth-place time of 7:53.
Also, the Niskayuna boys’ team picked up 18 points and finished in eighth place.
Marty Dolan led the team with a second-place finish in the two-mile run at 9:28.71, while the team’s distance medley relay team of Dolan, James Nuqui, Danny Malatesta and Tom Ragone came in third with a mark of 10:46.80.
CDYBL boys teams battle Albany
NISKAYUNA — The Niskayuna CDYBL boys’ basketball team took on Albany on Jan.
13.
The eighth-graders lost 57-48 despite 16 points from Brooks Brenna and 11 from Sam Booth.
Gavin Olsen and Kasper Matia scored 11 points in the seventh-grade team’s 65-45 loss.
Rocco Foti added eight points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Nick Thomas contributed 10 points.
The sixth-grade squad won 40-38. Cyrus Matia led the team with 11 points, while Brady Olsen had nine, Ethan Gilson had eight and Daniel Smalls collected six.
The fifth-grade team lost 45-37 with Sami Chowdhrey scoring 11 points. Charles Gadsden and Willem Greene each added six points.
Aidan Casey, Raymond Bowman and Chase Meisner each scored four points in the fourth-grade team’s 30-18 loss.
Girls’ travel teams take on North Colonie
NISKAYUNA — Niskayuna girls’ travel basketball teams played North Colonie on Jan. 6.
The eighth-grade team lost 40-37, while the seventh-grade squad fell 39-34.
In the sixth-grade game, Niskayuna won 27-21. Shakyra Kennedy had 13 points, Mya Melito had eight, Ava Schewe had four and Mazzy Russo added two.
Ava Roemer scored 19 points in the fifth-grade team’s 33-26 loss, while Maria DiPiazza added four.
The fourth-grade team fell 15-12. Natalie Birmingham scored 10 points, while Addison Stuart added two.
