SCHENECTADY — Chez Nous will serve its last dinner Feb. 16.
Heather and Andy Chestnut opened the French restaurant at 707 Union St., Dec. 15, 2015, Caroline Lee, a restaurant reviewer for The Daily Gazette, wrote in 2016 that it offered fabulous food in an elegant space.
Ultimately, the Chestnuts said in a news release, the revenue simply didn’t meet expenses.
“Chez Nous’ business volume is not high enough to cover costs,” they wrote. “We knew it would take some time for a unique restaurant like Chez Nous to find its audience in the Capital Region food scene, but after three years we see no signs that Chez Nous will ever achieve enough business volume to break even.
“Despite Chez Nous’ artistic success pairing local and French delicacies with a comprehensive offering of French wines in an elegant setting, we never figured out how to translate that into business success. So we have decided to let Chez Nous slip into memory after one last Valentine’s Day weekend.”
