Girls’ basketball: Mekeel edges Duanesburg

The 1-2-3 punch of seventh-grader Avery Mills, Jill Ballard and Maraya Davis combined for 35 points to help Mekeel Christian Academy hold off Duanesburg 43-42 in a Western Athletic Conference girls’ basketball game Friday night.

Duanesburg (6-3, 11-6) trailed most of the game, but when Jill Ballard fouled out, the Eagles took a one-point lead. Mills (15 points) hit one of two free throws to tie the game, and Davis nailed another foul shot in the final seconds to clinch the win for the 8-0, 14-3 Lions. Ballard and Davis finished with 10 points apiece.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo got 34 points from Taylor Meacham and 24 points from Alexis Wright to beat Fonda-Fultonville 66-50.

Mayfield squeezed past Schoharie 41-39 behind Katie LaGrange’s 19 points. Hannah Cater tallied 16 for Schoharie.

Kelsey Terrell (16), Makenzie Terrell (15) and Hallie Gasner (12) scored in twin figures to lift Middleburgh over OESJ 54-37.

Shenendehowa placed 11 players in the scoring column, topped by Bella Stuart’s 10 points, en route to a 75-26 victory over host Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake.

Saratoga Springs bounced Troy 70-42 behind the trio of Caroline LaFountain (14), Catherine Cairns (13) and Kerry Flaherty (12). Jenalyse Alarcon scored 16 for the Flying Horses.

Guilderland defeated Columbia 64-52 behind 23 points from Valencia Fontenelle-Posson.

Amelia Wood (20) and Kelsey Wood (17) led Averill Park over Bethlehem 67-39. Kelsey Wood, a junior, scored her 1,000th point during the game.

Maddisyn Mahoney scored 19 points to propel Shaker past Ballston Spa 63-50.

Jaden Wilson poured in 20 points to spark Johnstown over Glens Falls 59-20 in the Foothills Council. The Lady Bills outscored Glens Falls 20-1 in the second quarter.

Catholic Central defeated Schalmont 41-36 behind 18 points from Riqlya Harris. Payton Graber scored 16 for the Sabres.

Albany Academy closed the game with a 12-2 run and stopped Watervliet 39-31.

Lauren Sanderson’s 15 points helped Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk beat Cohoes 42-25.

Voorheesville’s balanced lineup of three double-digit scorers, led by Lily Zanello’s 13 points, offset Sabrina Pressley’s 27 points as the Blackbirds beat Cobleskill-Richmondville 52-47.

Led by Grace Field with 12 points and Saniyya Adams with 10, Holy Names defeated Ichabod Crane 55-41.

In the Wasaren League, Mechanicville got 25 points from Charli Goverski en route to a 67-49 win over Hoosick Falls.

Cambridge defeated Saratoga Central Catholic 61-24.
