JCC hoop teams notch victories

A pair of Schenectady JCC boys’ basketball teams picked up wins Jan. 13.

In the Junior division, Sam Booth’s 27 points led Schenectady JCC to a 69-47 win against St. Mary’s Ballston Spa Red.

In the Biddy division, Schenectady JCC topped St. Clement’s Green 33-26 as Zach Mravlja led the way with nine points.

 

Murphy wins 100th varsity match

Niskayuna High School junior James Murphy recently won the 100th wrestling match of his varsity career. On the season, Murphy was 17-7 through Jan. 16.

 

Youth wrestlers start off right

With a pair of recent wins, Niskayuna got itself off to a 2-0 start in the Capital District Youth Wrestling League.

Niskayuna won 59-0 against Colonie and 35-23 against Helderberg. Undefeated for Niskayuna through the team’s opening matches are Ryan Hein, Nathan Hein, Conner Neely, Brendan Neely, Drew Schiavo and Nathan Schulmerich.

The CDYWL is for kids in grades one through six and the league features 11 weight classes ranging from 50 pounds to heavyweights.
