The driver of a pick-up died Friday night died after an accident involving his collision with two other vehicles.
Saratoga Springs Police said Lucas Rockwood, 33, of Ballston Spa was driving his 2004 Ford F-350 pick-up eastbound on Van Dam Street, approaching Clinton Street, at approximately 9:35 p.m. when he drifted into the westbound lane, where he sideswiped a 2016 Kia traveling westbound on Van Dam.
Police said the driver and passenger of the Kia were not injured. But Rockwood’s truck then collided with a 2017 Ford F-150, which had been traveling westbound behind the Kia.
“The two trucks collided into each other on their front driver’s side and came to rest at the intersection,” police stated in a release.
The driver and passenger of the 2017 Ford, a 52-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, were transported to Saratoga Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“[Rockwood] was was found to be suffering an unknown medical emergency upon the arrival of police and fire to the scene. Mr. Rockwood was transported to Saratoga Hospital from there, but passed away at the hospital shortly thereafter,” police said in their release.
The car accident caused the back tires and bed area of Rockwood’s 2004 Ford to catch on fire, however police stated the fire is not believed to have been a contributing factor to Rockwood’s passing or the accident itself.
The Saratoga Springs Fire Department was at the scene and addressed the fire and the emergency medical treatment and transports of the patients. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s accident reconstruction team responded to help
reconstruct the accident.
Saratoga Springs police said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
