ALBANY — Local state troopers arrested 19 people on drunken driving charges over the weekend, a state police spokeswoman said.
Troopers made the arrests between Friday and Monday, across the Troop G region, which covers 10 counties. The numbers do not include arrests by other local agencies.
State police joined county, city and other police agencies statewide over Super Bowl weekend, in a crackdown on impaired driving that utilized increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints.
Troopers from Troop G also issued 266 speeding tickets and responded to 82 accidents across the region over the weekend.
Numbers for other arrests weren’t immediately available, but a Saturday night state police checkpoint in Schenectady resulted in two non-DWI arrests. One man who stopped at the checkpoint was found with cocaine, state police said. And another man driving without a license attempted to avoid the checkpoint, sparking a brief chase that resulted in a crash and minor injuries to a trooper.
Troop G covers Schenectady, Saratoga, Fulton, Montgomery and Schoharie counties.
