Glens Falls senior guard Joseph Girard III set the Section II single-game basketball scoring record with 69 points Friday night in a 98-83 Foothills Council boys’ basketball win at Schuylerville.
The 69 points surpassed the long-standing mark of 67 put up by Rich Campoli of St. Joseph’s of Albany in a February 1964 loss to Bolton Landing.
Girard III reached one of his many milestones at Schuylerville in January of last season when, with a 50-point effort, he became the Section II career scoring leader. Girard III would go on to become the state career scoring leader later that season. With his record performance Friday, he boosted his varsity points total to 4,174.
“It was a fun night, and I’m glad we won,” Girard III said. “I was just playing confident in my game in order to try and help my team win, and thankfully, we did that.”
