WILTON — A man who killed the occupant of an adjacent motel room on Oct. 7 pleaded guilty Monday to charges filed in the case.
Daniel A. Salas Miranda caused the death of Michael Kornacki when he discharged a firearm inside his room at the Crest Inn, on Route 9. The bullet went through the wall and hit Kornacki, according to investigators.
Miranda pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, according to the Saratoga County District Attorney’s office.
The incident happened in the wake of an Oct. 6 limousine crash in Schoharie that claimed 20 lives. The operator of the limousine, Shahed Hussain, is also a member of the family that owns the Crest Inn.
Hussain is facing criminal charges related to the limousine crash.
The plea also took place on the same day as a Corinth man was charged in his wife’s accidental gun death. In that case, the husband is accused of cleaning the weapon when it went off, killing his wife. He faces a second-degree manslaughter count.
