TOWN OF BALLSTON — A passenger in vehicle that was stopped by police on Friday tried to throw out a pipe with drug residue in it and has been charged with a felony as a result, state police said.
The incident happened at about 8 p.m. at the intersection of Round Lake Road and Morningdale Court, after troopers saw the vehicle’s driver violate vehicle and traffic law, troopers said.
As the trooper interviewed the driver, passenger Frank Mickenzi, 52, of Saratoga Springs, tossed a glass pipe containing cocaine residue from the vehicle in an attempt to conceal it, state police spokeswoman Trooper Kerra Burns said in an email.
“The Trooper heard the pipe bounce several times and immediately located it on the shoulder of the roadway,” Burns said.
Mickenzi was charged with one count of tampering with physical evidence, a felony, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
He was arraigned and remanded to jail.
