Schenectady residents are invited to a series of city school district budget forums scheduled for next week.
The forums are designed to solicit input from the community, as district officials plan a new district budget. District officials are hosting three sessions:
- 5:30 p.m. Monday at Mont Pleasant Middle School.
- 6 p.m. Tuesday at Oneida Middle School.
- 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Central Park Middle School.
“We would like to know what is most important to our parents and community members as we work to build next year’s budget,” the district wrote in a listing of the budget sessions.
The community forums come as district officials work to develop a budget for next school year that will go up for voter approval in May. Superintendent Larry Spring has expressed optimism the district will be in a position to expand services and program for students, going as far as to say he thinks this may his first year as superintendent that the district doesn’t plan for the potential of cuts to student services.
During similar budget sessions in recent years, district officials have asked attendees to rank or score potential expenditures, ranging from the addition of new social worker and teacher positions to providing students’ families with access to laundry services.
