
NORTH CREEK — Hunter Montgomery of Queensbury and Nick Fraterrigo of Niskayuna finished first and second, respectively, in the boys’ giant slalom on the second day of Alpine competition at the NYSPHSAA championships at Gore Mountain Tuesday.
Montgomery had the fastest time in both runs, a 1:08.08 followed by a 1:10.90 for a total of 2:18.98, .28 faster than Fraterrigo.
In the girls’ giant slalom, Hannah Klingebiel of Schuylerville (2:24.39) was third behind Logan Frederickson of Ellicottville (2:20.41) and Samantha Burton of Horace Greeley (2:21.22).
Melissa Taggert of Shenendehowa (2:26.55) and Maddie Montgomery of Queensbury (2:28.88) also finished in the top 10.
The Section II girls finished on top of the section standings in Alpine, with 668 points to 611 for Section V.
The Ellicottville girls and Pittsford boys won team titles.
In the relay portion of the Nordic competition on Day 2, the Section 2A team of Paul Lindsay, Sam Bordeau and Erik Schreiner finished second to Honeoye Falls (18:41.7) with a time of 18:46.4.
Katrin Schreiner, Katie Culliton and Bailey Gengel of Section II (23:36.6) finished third behind Brighton (22:39.6) and Section 5A.
The Mayfield girls finished second in the team standings.
