Police: Man fires rifle in Schenectady home, hits TV

SCHENECTADY — A man fired a rifle inside a Schenectady home last week and hit a television, authorities said.

No one was injured in the Feb. 20 incident, but two children were inside the home at the time, according to police allegations filed in court.

Michael A. McGough, 28, of Furman Street, was initially charged after the incident with a felony count of first-degree reckless endangerment. However, he no longer faces the felony as prosecutors determined the allegations did not fit the more serious charge, which require someone to have been placed at a “grave risk of death.”

No one was in the line of fire and there were no allegations the rifle was pointed at anyone, prosecutor Michael Nobles said Thursday.

McGough now faces misdemeanor counts of child endangerment, weapons possession and criminal mischief, Nobles said.

The incident happened just before 1:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at a McClellan Street address, authorities said. McGough was in an argument with another person and fired the .22 rifle in the direction of the television, Nobles said.

The incident happened in the front living room of the residence, while a second individual was in the same room and two children were in the rear of the residence.

McGough was initially arraigned on the felony and later released on $40,000 bail. He is due back in City Court on the misdemeanors in March.
