SCHENECTADY — A report of shots fired early Saturday led to the separate arrests of two city teens on gun possession charges, police said.
The call was the second shots fired call in two days. No injuries were reported.
Saturday morning’s call came in at 15 minutes after midnight in the area of Grove Place and Victory Avenue. Callers reported multiple shots, police said.
Responding officers spotted Sharif R. Venable, 17, on Close Street. He matched the description of a suspect, according to police allegations filed in court.
Police said Venable then fled on foot. Officers caught up with him and took him into custody after a brief struggle, police said. Officers also found him in possession of a Ruger .380 handgun with its serial number defaced, according to the allegations.
Venable, of Hamilton Street, faces one count each of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and defacement of a weapon, felonies, along with misdemeanor resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
Officers then separately encountered Wayne Q. Brown, Jr., 18, in the area of Lottridge Street and Daggett Terrace, according to police. Brown also fled on foot, police said. They caught up with him in the nearby parking lot of the Days Inn on Nott Terrace.
Officers allegedly found a Smith and Wesson black and silver handgun “on the path the defendant ran.” The serial number on that gun indicated it had been reported stolen in Virginia, police said.
Brown faces one count each of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, felonies, along with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, misdemeanors.
The incident followed another shots fired call from Thursday morning. No injuries were reported in that case, but a Brooklyn man was arrested and accused of firing at another person.
