Trains in Albany, north of Hudson stopped after train strikes, kills person on tracks

ALBANY – Two Amtrak trains were stopped Tuesday morning, one in Albany, after a train struck and killed a person on the tracks in Columbia County, officials said.

The incident happened at about 10:45 a.m. in the Town of Stockport, north of Hudson, near Station Road, state police said.

State police confirmed the person struck by the train was killed.

Amtrak’s Train 69 headed from New York City to Montreal struck the person, an Amtrak spokesperson said. There were no injuries to the 125 passengers and crew aboard the train.

Amtrak Police are cooperating with state police to investigate the incident, the spokesperson said.

Amrtrak tweeted earlier that “trespasser” incidents had stopped Train 69 north of Hudson and then Train 290 in Albany.

The Amtrak twitter handle appears to have previously used that terminology to describe someone on the tracks and it has used that term in recent days for other incidents in the Northeast.

Amtrak tweeted later Train 69 continued on after a three-hour delay; Train 290 two hours late.
