Troopers: Two Saratoga County men flee from police in separate weekend incidents

SARATOGA COUNTY – Two Saratoga County men fled from state police traffic stops in separate incidents this past weekend, prompting troopers to give chase, state police said Tuesday.

In one case, troopers arrested Middle Grove resident Matthew A. Todd, 33, after a chase Saturday night, state police said.

Troopers spotted Todd speeding on Middle Grove Road in Greenfield at about 10:30 p.m. and attempted to pull him over. Todd, however, ran a red light and continued on at a high rate of speed, state police said.

Troopers gave chase until Todd pulled into the driveway of his residence and fled the vehicle. State police had to bring in a K-9 unit to track him down. The dog led police to another residence, a friend of Todd’s on Wileytown Road. Todd showed up there wet, covered in mud and wearing only one shoe, troopers said.

He was arrested and taken to the state police barracks where a breath test showed his blood alcohol content to be 0.07 percent.

Troopers charged Todd with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, driving while ability impaired, an infraction, and reckless driving, a misdemeanor. He also faces numerous infractions.

Todd was released to return to court later.

In the other case, troopers attempted to stop Justin A. Aviles, 19, of Rexford, early Saturday on Grooms Road in Clifton Park, but Aviles failed to pull over and instead sped up to a high rate of speed, state police said.

Troopers pursued Aviles until he stopped on Miller Road. Troopers interviewed Aviles and smelled marijuana inside the car, troopers said.

Aviles was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, troopers said. He also faces multiple infractions.

Aviles was released to return to court later.
