BALLSTON SPA – A Wilton man was sentenced this week to a total of 10 years in state prison in connection with the death of a man last October, Saratoga County District Attorney’s officials said.
Daniel A. Salas Miranda, 40, of the Crest Inn, admitted in February that he discharged a firearm from inside his room at the Crest Inn Oct. 7. The bullet traveled through the wall and hit and killed Michael Kornacki.
Salas Miranda pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison.
Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen praised the state police investigation in a release. They used the resources available to them to provide prosecutors with a solid case, Heggen said in a statement.
Members of Kornacki’s family were present for the sentencing. Kornacki was the father of a young daughter.
Charles Bucca and Mary Theresa Northrup prosecuted for the district attorney’s office.
