College lacrosse: No. 16 Union men down No. 17 RPI

Dutchmen clinch Liberty League tournament first-round bye

TROY — The 15th-ranked Union College men’s lacrosse team outscored No. 16 RPI 5-0 in the fourth quarter to break a 12-12 tie and beat the Engineers 17-12 at East Campus Field on Wednesday.

Union (6-0 Liberty League) clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming conference tournament and moved to 11-1 overall for the first time in the program’s long history. The Dutchmen were 10-1 1966, which was matched in 1974 and 2014.

RPI fell to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in the Liberty League.

Hayden Frey scored two goals for Union in the fourth, breaking the 12-12 tie 2:15 into the quarter and scoring the last goal of the game with 2:44 left.

Kerry Lyne had three goals and two assists for Union, and Lucas Bastarache had two goals and two assists for the Engineers.

Women

Siena 18, Marist 10

POUGHKEEPSIE — Redshirt freshman Kaitlyn Dowsett scored five goals and assisted on two as Siena defeated Marist to conclude the regular season.

Hayley Kmack and Mary Soures each scored three and assisted on two for the Saints, and Nicole McNeely had two goals and three assists.

Siena (10-5, 6-2) has finished the season with at least 10 wins for the third time in the program’s 23-year history.
