JOHNSTOWN — An employee of the Fulton County YMCA has been charged with raping a child at the organization’s Harrison Street facility.

Tyler R. Benton, 19, a resident of the city of Johnstown, was arrested by Fulton County sheriff’s deputies and charged with first-degree rape of a person under the age of 13.

Sheriff Richard Giardino said Benton is alleged to have had sexual intercourse with the child during the second week of April. Giardino said the criminal compliant was brought to the sheriff’s office by YMCA officials.

“He was terminated immediately upon the internal complaint to the YMCA,” Giardino said. “The YMCA has been extremely cooperative with us throughout the investigation.”

Benton was arraigned in Perth Town Court and sent to the Fulton County Correctional Facility on $2,500 or $5,000 bond.
He is set to reappear in Johnstown Town Court at a later date.
