SCHENECTADY – A man suffered a wound to his chest Friday night in an incident initially reported as a shooting, police said Monday.

Though reported as a shooting, police spokesman Sgt. Jeffrey McCutcheon said Monday that officers found no physical evidence of a shooting and he described the man’s injuries as “laceration type,” inconsistent with an injury from a gunshot.

Police were called to the area of State and Robinson streets at about 9:15 a.m. for the reported shooting, McCutcheon said. Officers arrived to find the victim, identified as Ronald Rice, 39, with the laceration wound to his chest. Rice’s city of residence was unavailable.

Rice was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment.

Rice told officers he had been shot, but officers searched the area and found no evidence of that, McCutcheon said. He has since become uncooperative with detectives, McCutcheon said.
