TROY – A large fire Wednesday morning consumed the Alpha Lanes bowling alley and shuttered schools in the area as firefighters worked to get it out.
The fire at Alpha Lanes on Fifth Avenue destroyed the historic bowling alley, collapsing parts of the structure and dropping the iconic Alpha sign to the ground as flames continued to take the building.
There were no injuries in the fire, Troy Fire Chief Eric McMahon told Gazette news gathering partner CBS6.
Troy Mayor Patrick Madden wrote on Twitter of firefighters working to knock down the flames and contain the blaze. The city’s deputy mayor was on scene with first responders, Madden wrote.
The Lansingburgh Central School District also tweeted that Rensselaer Park Elementary, Knickerbacker Middle School and Lansingburgh High School were dismissing early due to smoke from the blaze and loss of power. Turnpike Elementary will dismiss at normal time.
“Students are safe, there is no cause for alarm,” the district wrote.
