CHESTER – A Hadley man was killed and his 27-year-old nephew from Broadalbin was injured in a fall from a home’s roof in the Town of Chester Wednesday, Warren County Sheriff’s officials said.

Killed was Gary Bogdan, 55, of Hadley, officials said. His nephew, identified as Broadalbin resident Adam Bogdan, suffered arm and possible internal injuries, officials said.

The incident happened at about 8:30 a.m. at 255 Knapp Hill Road in Chester, home Gary Bogdan had recently purchased, officials said.

Gary Bogdan and his nephew worked Wednesday morning to scrap shingles from the home, as they stood on a plank anchored to roof, officials said.

“At some point it appears that while scraping off the roof shingles, Gary Bogdan may have struck the bracket with a tool and sheared off the nails that were holding his bracket in place,” sheriff’s officials wrote in a release, “causing it to dislodge and both men to fall 20 feet to the ground below.”

Chestertown Fire and North Warren EMS responded and attempted resuscitation efforts on Gary Bogdan, but he was declared dead at the scene. Adam Bogdan was taken to Glens Falls Hospital by Warrensburg EMS for treatment of his injuries, officials said.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
