
The Mohonasen girls’ track and field team dominated Tuesday on its way to winning a Colonial Council championship, while Albany Academy did the same on the boys’ side.
To win the girls’ championship, Mohonasen scored 158.67 points to outpace second-place Holy Names’ 79.33. Mohonasen freshman Zionna Perez-Tucker won the 200, plus contributed to winning 400 and 1,600 relays. Other individual winners for Mohonasen were junior Emma Sinisgalli (1,500), sophomore Kate Sherman (3,000), freshman Loren Cuomo (2,000 steeplechase) and senior Lena Calkins (pole vault). Ichabod Crane senior Ama Boham won the 100, 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles, while Cobleskill-Richmondville senior Emma Haag won both the shot put and discus throw.
In its boys’ team victory, Albany Academy received wins from junior Ahmad Praileau in the long jump and 110 hurdles. For second-place Mohonasen, senior Kaleb Fretto earned wins in the 100 and 200, and helped the Mighty Warriors to a win in the 400 relay.
The Colonial Council championships took place at Mohonasen.
MAYFIELD/NORTHVILLE, CANAJOHARIE CLAIM TITLES
Sophomore Madison Relyea and senior Taryn LaFontaine led the Mayfield/Northville girls’ team to a Western Athletic Conference championship with 138 points to beat second-place Fonda-Fultonville’s 92, while junior Marcus Johnson starred for the victorious Canajoharie boys’ squad that scored 136.33 points to outdo Fonda’s 126.
Relyea won the 800 and 1,500 as an individual, plus contributed to wins in the 1,600 and 3,200 relays to lead the Mayfield/Northville girls’ team. LaFontaine joined Relyea on those winning relays, and also won the 400. Other winners of multiple individuals girls’ events were Fonda senior Emilia Vardai-Davidson (400 hurdles, long jump) and Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons senior Areyanna Crumble (200, 100 hurdles).
For the Canajoharie boys’ team, Johnson won the long jump, triple jump, 400 hurdles and was a member of the school’s winning 1,600 relay. Also with multiple individual wins were ND-BG senior Nelon Priest (100, 200) and Galway junior Holden Decker (800, 1,600).
The WAC Championships took place at Fonda.
BLUE STREAKS WIN BOYS’ CHAMPIONSHIP
At the Suburban Council boys’ championships, Saratoga Springs scored 77 points to claim the team title. Shenendehowa finished in second place with 66 points, while Columbia took third with 63.
Saratoga Springs’ lone individual winner was junior Kirk Francis in the long jump. The event’s lone competitor to win multiple events was Averill Park senior James Cocca who won the shot put and discus throw.
The Suburban Council boys’ championships took place at Troy, while the girls’ championships take place Wednesday at Burnt Hills.
