High schools: Schoharie’s Helmstadt fans 19 in no-hitter

Shane Helmstadt pitched a no-hitter with 19 strikeouts, leading Schoharie past Berne-Knox-Westerlo 9-0 in a Western Athletic Conference baseball game Wednesday.

Quin Barton had three singles for Schoharie, Cam MacDonald had two singles and Ethan Drinon and Josh Scheuer both had a double.

Schoharie was on the losing end of a no-hitter earlier this season against Fonda-Fultonville.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons defeated Canajoharie 8-3, led by Nick Kownack with a double, while Connor Barber and Matt Kordziel each had two singles. Derek Hyney and Isaiah Logan each doubled for Canajoharie.

Derek Duval tossed a two-hit shutout as Fonda-Fultonville defeated Galway 10-1.

Fort Plain shut out OESJ 7-0, led by Zack Reid’s triple and double, while Troy Butler, Brady Fureno, Bryce Thibodeau, and Nate Buley had two singles each.

Shenendehowa edged Bethlehem 4-3 in the Suburban Council, led by a double and single from Thomas Krill and Ben Lavery’s double. Josh Bein doubled for Bethlehem.

Chris Martin had a double and a single, and Carter Bach had a pair of singles to lead Colonie past CBA 6-3. Drew Signor had two singles for CBA.

Guilderland defeated Albany 12-4 behind Dallas Seyler’s two singles.

Columbia beat Averill Park 6-4 behind doubles by Zach Eldred and Robert Erno.

Saratoga Springs beat Niskayuna 7-1 behind a double and a single each from Christian Kondo and Sam Cirenza, doubles from Nate Chudy and Ryan Ash and two singles from Jonathan Irons.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake defeated Shaker 6-3, led by Sam Gardy with a double and a single, and Hunter Valley with two singles.

In the Colonial Council, Albany Academy defeated Ichabod Crane 12-2, led by Derek Bender’s triple and single, Danny Mosher’s triple, and two singles each by Sam Sundwall and Evan Kelley.

Cobleskill-Richmondville defeated Cohoes 12-7, led by Sterling Sisson’s double and single, Aaron Henry’s double and Alex Javitz, Donovan Pacatte and David Nicholas with two singles each. Cohoes was led by Thomas Fiffe Jr. with a double and single, Austin Smith with a double and Kyle Milligan and Troy Snyder with two singles each.

Voorheesville edged Watervliet 4-3, led by Joe Saia’s triple. Watervliet was led by Tyler Bouregard’s double and single.

Mohonasen edged La Salle 7-6 as pitcher Drew Coehlo struck out eight in 6 2/3 innings.

Lansingburgh beat Schalmont 3-1. Jake Defayette had two singles for Schalmont.

Nick Morola had a home run, two doubles and a single, Addison Shaul doubled and singled twice and Justin O’Neil and Tyler Cause doubled each to help Scotia-Glenville to a shutout of Gloversville 14-0 in a Foothills Council game. Raymond Strauser had two singles for Gloversville.

Jack Sylvia hit a home run and a single to help Queensbury beat Schuylerville 7-2.

Amsterdam beat Broadalbin-Perth 16-4, led by Francisco Andres Santana with a three doubles, Jake Rhee Grecko’s double and three singles, Matt Murphy with two doubles and two singles and Peyton Ausfeld’s double and two singles.

In the Wasaren League, Mechanicville edged Greenwich 2-1 behind Jacob Popiel’s two singles.

Tamarac defeated Saratoga Central Catholic 6-2, led by Tristian Nemjo’s home run and double and Dalton Maxon’s home run and single.

In the Suburban Council, Columbia edged Averill Park 4-3 led by Grace Bayly’s two singles, including the game-winner in the seventh inning, and Maeve Marra’s two singles. Averill Park was led by Abby Nagel’s two singles.

Ellen Fuda and Hannah Garrett each had two singles to help Shenendehowa edge Bethlehem 3-2. Haley Nash and Anna Cleary each had a solo home run for Bethlehem.

Guilderland defeated Albany 15-2. Alyssa Burg and Anna Ciccarelli had a home run and a double each for Guilderland, while Ashley Shean, Jess Serravillo and Alyssa Shearing had a home run and a single each. 

Ballston Spa edged Troy 4-3 behind Julia Russell and Katelyn Hilko with two singles each.

In the Foothills Council, South Glens Falls shut out Glens Falls 2-0, led by Kasen Lemay’s two singles. Glens Falls was led by Lexi Cutter’s two singles.

Scotia-Glenville defeated Gloversville 15-3, led by Sophia Schuab’s pair of triples and single, and Kelly Mayette’s two doubles and single.

Mechanicville beat Greenwich 4-1 in the Wasaren League behind Erin Salvatore’s home run and single, Taylor Lescault’s three singles, and Destiny Farr’s double. Greenwich’s run came from a solo home run by Courtney Fraher.

In the Colonial Council, Madison Teta hit a grand slam, a three-run home run, and a pair of doubles, while Angelise Montanez had a home run and three singles to lift Lansingburgh over Schalmont 18-6.

Ichabod Crane shut out Catholic Central 7-3 in Game 1 of a doubleheader, and took the second game 14-0.

Voorheesville beat Albany Academy 12-4. Ella Kelly and Olivia Richardson had a double and single each, Marisa Gifford doubled and Sydney Worthley added three singles. Albany Academy was led by Kyle McRoberts’ two singles.

Cobleskill-Richmondville defeated Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 5-2, led by Meaghan Houk’s home run.

Mohonasen beat Holy Names 18-2, led by Michaela Arcate and Natalie Blackstone with a double and two singles each. Keeley Harrick and Emma Rafferty added with two doubles each.

In the Western Athletic Conference, Fort Plain/OESJ defeated Middleburgh 17-5 behind Michela Stockwell’s two-run homer, Jenna Reese’s triple and three singles, Alexis Klock’s double, Gabby Jenks’ three singles, and Meadow Arduini’s two singles.

Hanna Hofmann had two doubles and a single, Emma Smith had a double and two singles and Kaylee Bagdan and Jess Pakatar each had two singles as Galway beat Fonda-Fultonville 9-5. Emma Smith struck out 10 in a complete-game victory.

Mayfield defeated Northville 30-7, led by Jillian Botch’s triple. Emily Shepard doubled for Northville.
