CHATHAM – A traffic stop on the New York State Thruway’s Berkshire Spur uncovered more than 200 pounds of marijuana, state police said.
Troopers stopped the vehicle at about 10 a.m. Friday for a traffic violation on the section of the Thruway that runs from Interstate 87 to the Massachusetts border in Rensselaer and Columbia counties, state police said.
Troopers brought in a K9, who detected marijuana. A search of the vehicle uncovered the marijuana, state police said.
Troopers released a photo of the seizure, showing more than a half a dozen large gym bags, two large bags unzipped to show the contents. For scale, a state trooper stood next to the bags.
Troopers arrested both occupants of the vehicle and identified them as Corey W. Heald, 29, and Kelly L. Heald, 51, both of Massena, St. Lawrence County.
They both face one count of first-degree criminal possession of marijuana. They were arraigned and ordered held.
