SCHENECTADY — Garage sale pickers, gun your motors.

A new event aims to put Schenectady on the map as an annual garage sale destination.

The MVP Health Care Monster Yard Sale on Saturday, June 1 will have vendors selling antiques, housewares, collectibles and more.

Event locations include the Schenectady Armory, Mohawk Harbor and Rivers Casino & Resort.

Attendees will also be able to enjoy a custom car show, local food trucks and live music.

Vendor slots are available. To sign up, visit dailygazette.com/yardsale.

Trolley service will be available to shuttle people between event locations and designated free parking areas at the MVP Parking Garage and SUNY Schenectady compliments of MVP Health Care.

The event is organized by The Daily Gazette, a family-owned newspaper published in Schenectady celebrating its 125th year in 2019.

“We like the idea of a city-wide event,” said Daily Gazette VP of Advertising Bob O’Leary.

O’Leary hopes the event will spur visits elsewhere in Schenectady and will become an annual tradition akin to the World’s Largest Garage Sale, the annual fall event that draws thousands to Warrensburg in the Adirondacks every October.

“Hopefully this will benefit Schenectady in a big way,” he said. “We want to see it turn into something special.”

Robert Christopher, marketing director at Rivers Casino & Resort, said the organization was “thrilled” to host such a high caliber event.

“It’s always fun when Schenectady becomes the destination point,” Christopher said.
