CLIFTON PARK – Two people were killed and three were seriously injured as a result of a two-vehicle accident Saturday at the intersection of Ushers Road and Route 9.
Identities of those involved were not available later Saturday.
State police said the accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. when a vehicle traveling southbound on Route 9 left its lane of travel, and struck another vehicle that had been traveling east on Ushers Road and had stopped for the traffic light at the intersection of Route 9.
“The driver of the southbound vehicle is in police custody as the accident continues to be investigated,” state police said.

That driver who was also hospitalized, is expected to be arraigned officially Sunday morning. Charges, an identity and further court information regarding the driver were unavailable late Saturday.
The accident involved a black Dodge Ram pickup truck with New York license plates and a black Cadillac CTS with Florida license plates.
The roof of the sedan had to be removed to free one trapped person.
State police confirmed that two people had been killed in the collision, and three people were sent to area hospitals with serious injuries as a result of the crash.
After the collision both vehicles ended up in a ditch facing southbound along Route 9, where a frantic response of state police, Saratoga County sheriff’s deputies, Jonesville and Round Lake fire department personnel and local emergency medical responders occurred.
The accident, which shut down at least one southbound lane of the four-lane state highway stretch for about six and one-half hours, remains under investigation.
State police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the Clifton Park barracks at 518-583-7000.
