WILTON – A Wilton woman drove drunk Saturday afternoon and rear-ended a car, causing injuries, state police said.
The driver and occupants of the car struck suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene, troopers said.
The accused drunk driver, identified as Rene K. Cogovan, 54, of Wilton, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Saratoga Hospital for treatment, state police said.
State police charged Cogovan with one count of driving while intoxicated.
The crash happened at about 1:40 p.m. on Route 50 and Edie Road in Wilton, state police said.
Witnesses reported seeing Cogovan driving erratically prior to the crash and they watched as she rear-ended the other car, state police said.
Cogovan was processed and released to a third party. She is to appear in court later.
The Wilton crash happened on a Memorial Day weekend that has seen multiple DWI arrests and DWI-related crashes, authorities have said.
It came just over an hour before another alleged drunk driver slammed into a car on Route 9 in Clifton Park, killing two people and seriously injuring three others. The driver in that crash faces aggravated vehicular homicide and other charges.
It also followed a state police, Glenville police and Schenectady County Sheriff’s sobriety checkpoint in Glenville Friday night that resulted in three impaired driving arrests.
State police were assisted at the Wilton scene by members of Wilton EMS, the Wilton Fire Department and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.
