HALFMOON – A Colonie woman drove drunk the wrong way on Interstate 87 from Colonie to Halfmoon early Saturday, state police said.
Jessica D. Hayes, 26, was ultimately stopped in Halfmoon and charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, state police said.
The incident began just before 2 a.m. when troopers were dispatched to the interstate for a report of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, troopers said. Troopers then spotted the car near Exit 6, still traveling in the wrong direction.
Upon stopping the car in Halfmoon, troopers determined alcohol to have been involved. They administered field sobriety tests and arrested her.
Hayes was taken back to the Latham station, where she refused to provide a breath sample to determine her blood alcohol content.
She also charged with reckless driving and refusing a breath test.
She was arraigned and ordered held on bail.
The incident was one of several involving drunk driving over the Memorial Day weekend. It happened about 13 hours before troopers say another driver drove drunk and crashed into another car on Route 9, killing two and seriously injuring three others.
