Schenectady Police: Woman assaulted police matron in police lockup

SCHENECTADY — A city woman taken into custody on domestic-related charges assaulted a city police matron while in the city police lockup Wednesday, police allege.

Savannah M. Torres, 29, of Seneca Street, is accused of kicking the matron in the stomach just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, causing the officer to fall backward and hit her head, according to police allegations filed in court.

The matron was taken to Ellis Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Torres faces one count of second-degree assault, a felony, as well as a misdemeanor obstructing governmental administration charge.

Torres was in police custody after a dispute between her and her father on Seneca Street at about 2:30 a.m., according to police allegations.

Torres was accused of refusing officer orders to remain outside while they spoke with the father inside, trying to push past officers three times, according to police allegations.

She faces obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest charges in that incident, records show.
