FULTONVILLE — Officials with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department arrested an Amsterdam man following a domestic dispute that took place last Thursday morning, police said.
John M. Parente, 62, of 169 Rector Road, faces multiple charges in relation to the incident.
At approximately 8:09 a.m. on Thursday, the Montgomery County 911 center received a call regarding a domestic dispute. The caller said that Parente threatened to shoot her with a handgun, as well as any law enforcement personnel who responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, a Montgomery County sheriff’s deputy was told Parente was inside the residence and possessed both a handgun and an AK-47 rifle. The woman reiterated that he was threatening to shoot her and law enforcement personnel.
Sheriff’s deputies with the assistance of state troopers from the Fultonville barracks called Parente out of the residence and took him into custody without incident. Both an AK-47 with large capacity magazines and a 9 mm handgun were found following a search of the home. The defendant was prohibited from having the handgun because he did not possess a valid state pistol permit. The rifle was not registered with New York state.
Parente was charged with three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and one count of third-degree attempted assault, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned in Amsterdam Town Court and sent to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bail bond.
