125 Years of News: July 7, 2019



In celebration of The Daily Gazette’s 125th anniversary, the newspaper will publish newsworthy items from past editions and past decades.

On July 7:

1933: Kidnappers demand $250,000 in ransom for the return of John J. O’Connell, 24-year-old nephew of upstate Democratic leader Dan O’Connell.

1966: Frank D. O’Connor lands at the Schenectady County airport seeking local Democratic support for an election bid against incumbent Gov. Nelson Rockefeller.

1967: Fire causes at least $1 million in damage to the 12th floor of the tower at the Empire State Plaza.
