MAYFIELD – An investigation into a man’s death in Mayfield Sunday night has determined he died of natural causes, troopers said Monday afternoon.

Troopers had been investigating the death of 55-year-old Melvin E. Yager after he called 911 to report an altercation and then became unresponsive while on the line with dispatchers, troopers said.

Troopers determined Yager had returned home and “entered into a dispute with a juvenile that had been residing with him,” troopers said in a release.

The dispute led to an altercation. When that ended, Yager left and contacted 911 from a different residence. He then “suffered a medical event” and became unresponsive, troopers said.

The release did not describe the medical event further.

He was taken to Nathan Littauer Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
