Saratoga Sheriff: Clifton Park man, 83, attacks wife with ax

CLIFTON PARK – An 83-year-old Clifton Park man attacked his wife with an ax early Monday, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said.

The man’s wife suffered serious injuries to her head, face and hand, but has since been released from the hospital, officials said.

William D. Barber, 83, of Blue Spruce Lane, was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree assault, a felony, and misdemeanor weapons possession, officials said.

Deputies were called to the couple’s residence via a 911 call at about 12:30 a.m. Monday. The victim, identified as 73-year-old Densie Barber, reported that her husband had struck her with an ax.

Deputies, along with EMS and fire department personnel responded. She was taken by ambulance to Albany Medical Center, where she was treated.

William Barber was arrested and arraigned. He was released to return to court later.
