Gymnastics sensation Ohashi to compete at Aurora Games

Former UCLA gymnast Katelyn Ohashi will compete at the inaugural Aurora Games at Times Union Center.

ALBANY — Gymnast Katelyn Ohashi, who made a name for herself at UCLA, will compete in the inaugural Aurora Games Aug. 20-25 at Times Union Center.

She will be on Team Americas for the gymnastics competition on Aug. 21 at 7 p.m.

Ohashi, who is noted for amassing six perfect scores during her senior season at UCLA will make her professional debut at the Aurora Games.

“I’m excited to be participating in the Aurora Games,” Ohashi said in a press release. “To be a part of an event that was named after a Roman Goddess and celebrates women in sports is definitely something I wholeheartedly support. Team Americas is going to crush it!”

The 22-year-old from Seattle rose to prominence at the Collegiate Challenge in Anaheim, California, on Jan. 12, during which she obtained a perfect 10 score for her floor routine. Her performance later found its way onto social media, accruing close to 120 million views.

Ohashi completed her UCLA career with 11 perfect 10’s, nine from the floor and two from the balance beam, obtained All-American honors 10 times, and was a member of UCLA’s 2018 NCAA team championship squad, and a co-national champion in the floor exercise. Ohashi just graduated UCLA with a degree in gender studies.
